The Tier1 iron and manganese reducing replacement water filter use cation exchange resin to remove minerals such as iron and manganese from your water. Cation exchange resin exchanges ions with the minerals in water to capture and reduce contaminants. In a softener this process can be repeated for longer stretches of time since the resin beads will be regenerated, however with a replacement cartridge like this, you won't have to worry about replacing salt or wasteful backwash cycles to regenerate the resin.
